"Manzamigos" is a local tourist
assistance group in the Manzanillo area.
E-Mail
In January 2001, Manzamigos was formed as an Association of
Mexican and Foreign persons with an interest in supporting the
area and people of Manzanillo, under the direction of Guillermo
Gomez, Managing Director of Tema Nissan. In the first year, with
Guillermo as President, many worth while endeavors were
accomplished, including the importation of 15 wheelchairs for a
home for crippled children in a neighboring town, but
unfortunately, as a busy businessman, he was unable to continue
for a second year in the capacity of President & Nigel Rumford was
elected to take over this position in April of 2002.
The first task as new chairman
was to put a set of bylaws in place and register the name of the
Association legally. This has been done and hopefully all will be
realized in the near future. Also we are ensuring that all
donations & gifts are completely tax deductible in the U.S as well
as Mexico. (Unfortunately Canada does not have this agreement with
Mexico at this time.)
Now we are able to direct
ourselves towards the next task, which is opening the association
up to new members and progressing towards an eventful year in
whatever direction we decide to take. Our bylaws will allow us to
do many things from charity events, to bringing cultural events to
town, or simply having social evenings to enjoy each other’s
company. Therefore we are looking for members with the desire
and/or experience who are able to guide us to all of these ends.
We are most fortunate to have
most of the chiefs of departments within the city on our advisory
board (including the Mayor of Manzanillo, Rogelio Rueda) but still
require a working board. There are executive positions to be
filled, as well as heads of various adhoc committees and whatever
is to your interest or time allowance; there will be some way that
everyone so willing can assist us. We would appreciate hearing
from persons with contacts in various organizations who are able
to help us in finding more wheelchairs, protective clothing & gear
for firefighters, various hospital equipment which although
outdated is still better than nothing and many other similar items
which can be donated where needed.
Because of the cost of legal
fees and various supplies always in demand, it was decided at the
last board meeting to impose a low membership fee to cover our
costs, rather than board members pay for these things personally
as has been the case in the past. This is $250NP p.a.
Charitable organizations in the
local area, as decided by the board with recommendations from
members, will receive the entirety of funds raised from any events
we stage throughout the year.
Our Association books are
completely open & will be available for members to see, with
proper convenient time allowance. The bylaws and the running of
the Association will be as directed by Roberts Rules of Order.
Copies of which are available in both English & Spanish on the
Internet.
We look forward to a good year
with Manzamigos and to the pleasure of your company.
