SIDE TRIPS & DAY TRIPS
(While you're here, Explore)
|
There
are numerous places to visit for a day or an afternoon in and
around Costalegre. Some are
good for exploring, some for shopping, others for swimming,
snorkeling, or
beachcombing. Melaque or
Barra de Navidad are great
places for visitors to use as bases for exploring southern
Costalegre. Here are a few day trips you may want to
consider. |

agricultural pueblo of 32,000 people. Located 18
kilometers south of Melaque, it borders alongside the
Rio Cihuatlán (Rio de Chacala). |
 |

The "Piedra Pintada" (painted
rock) is near the pueblo of Cihuatlán. Along the Marabasco
river in the middle of a field of jalapeno peppers lies a large
bolder with circular petroglyphs ingraved on it. The
history of this stone is unknown. It is located about 6km
up the Cihuatlán side of the river. Procure one of the
local taxis or tour companies to direct you there. To cool
off on the way back, bring your bathing suit and stop off at one
of the occasional pools where the river widens. |

the price of a beer you can sit in the shade of a palapa and
while away the day, or one could snorkel on the reef on the
south side of the bay or sunbathe on the beach, or
hide under
an
umbrella. |
