CANADA-DIRECT (The
best way to call Canada)

INTRODUCTION
|
 Before the introduction of the
Canada-Direct telephone service from Teleglobe & Bell Canada, calling home from Mexico was
a foreign experience. You are now able to call
hassle-free using a Calling Card provided for free by your provincial
telephone company. Your calls are billed to your calling
card at Canadian long distance rates, which are significantly
more economical than Mexican rates. If you are a member
of a provincial long distance saving plan, those discounts are
available on applicable Canada-Direct calls to Canada |
ACCESS NUMBERS
|
Canada-Direct toll-free access numbers in
Mexico are 01.800.123.0200, 01.800.021.1994 or 91.1.800.01.994. These
numbers connect you to a Canada-Direct operator or computer,
who will connect you to your desired number in Canada.
Use LADATEL (Silver booths with LADA 91 written on the sides) or TEL-MEX public phones if possible.
Public
pay phones usually require coins or local pre-paid phone cards.

PROCEDURE

After you dial one of the above access
numbers, enter your Calling Card number and pass code.
You can place up to ten calls in a row without hanging up -
just press # (pound sign) after each call and follow the voice
prompts. Another method is to direct dial the following
number sequence.

CALLING CARDS
|
If you do not already have one, you
must apply for a calling card with your provincial telephone
provider a few months in advance of your trip. Cards are
provided free of charge. You are only charged long
distance fees when using them. Test that your card
works before you leave home by calling a friend or relative long
distance from a pay phone. |
